Application Process - Music

Prepare Application Required Documents

Proof of High School Completion

  • All proof should be in English. If original documents are not in English, it needs to be translated and notarized. 

  • Proof can be in the form of one of the following:

    • Official high school transcript

      • Official high school transcript must be sent directly from the issuing institution by 

      • Mail: ATTN: Admissions, Mahanaim, 300 Nassau Rd, Huntington, NY 11743

      • Email: Admissions@mahanaim.com

      • Both original transcripts or electronic copies are acceptable. 

    • Copy of High School Diploma

      • The student may submit a copy of a high school diploma; however, not all submissions will meet the requirement, and additional proof may be requested.

    • High School Equivalency Transcript (GED/HiSET Test Scores)

      • GED

        • Students can request their High School Equivalency Transcripts to be sent to Mahanaim via GED.com. Once students fill out a transcript request form, the participating state's Department of Education will send transcripts directly to Mahanaim. 

      • HiSET

        • Students can request their High School Equivalency Transcripts to be sent to Mahanaim via hiset.ets.org. Once students fill out a transcript request form, ETS will send transcripts directly to Mahanaim.

Recommendation letters

  • Two recommendation letters from teachers of the current institution, including music teachers, lesson teachers, and other subjects teachers. 

  • Letters should be in English

  • Letters should be sent directly from the teachers from the institution. Once students provide teachers’ email addresses, Mahanaim will contact the teachers directly. 

Personal Essay 

  • All applicants are required to submit a one-page essay with their application on one of the following topics:

    • 1) Describe your goals in life and tell us your specific reasons for choosing to apply to Mahanaim as you pursue these goals.

    • 2) Describe a time when you confronted a challenge, obstacle, or failure. How did it influence you, and what did you learn from the experience?

  • Format

    • File Format: PDF format

    • Title: Last Name, First Name

    • Lengths: 400-600 words

    • Font: Times New Roman

    • Font Size: 12

    • Margins: Use a 1” margin on all sides

    • Line Spacing: 1.5 or double line spacing

    • Alignment: Use “left align”
       

Pre-screening links

    • The recorded video must be focused. Unfocused or blurry videos will not be accepted

    • Last name, First name, Name of a musical piece that you will sing or play

  • Youtube Link: Please upload the above format videos to Youtube and share the link in the application.

  • Applicant needs to write a composer and the piece title of the prescreening in the application.

  • Pre-screening results will be announced two weeks after the application deadline date.

English Proficiency Test

Mahanaim requires an English Proficiency Test only for international students whose primary academic language or from a country where the official language is not English

  • Sending a result to Mahanaim

    • TOEFL iBT/TOEFL Essentials: the ETS school code is B175. When you register for a test for ETS, you must put a code to send your test result directly to Mahanaim.

    • IELTS: Register “Mahanaim” for your nominated institution for the IELTS and send your result directly to Mahanaim.

    • Duolingo: After taking a test, share your result with “Mahanaim (‘Other’ category)” on your Duolingo Test Account.

  • Test results will be collected by the Department of Enrollment Management and scanned into a file for each student folder when it is a paper copy. 

  • The TOEFL test of students who did not apply to Mahanaim will be kept for five years, and after five years, it will be discarded.

Check Your Application Status

Once you have submitted your application online, the Department of Enrollment Management will notify you via email of your application submission. 

 

If you are required for additional documents or have some missing documents, the Department of Enrollment Management will contact you via email.

Live Audition & Interview

Once you are qualified after reviewing your application and pre-screening submission, you will receive an email about the date and time for your live audition and interview.

 

The interview is intended to help us to get to know you better. There’s nothing specific you need to prepare. The interview will take place at the end of the live audition.

Receive Your Decision

Spring admission decisions are released on a rolling basis starting in October.

Fall Admission decisions are released on a rolling basis starting in April.

Additional Information for Specific Applicant Populations

Some applicants are required to submit additional information. If you identify as an applicant from one of these populations please submit the required information below.

International Applicants

Students from all over the world comes to Mahanaim. Mahanaim is private postsecondary non-degree granting school and is licensed by Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS).

Transfer Applicants

Transfer students are students who have graduated from high school or earned a high school equivalent and are in the process of completing or have completed college or university coursework after high school graduation. If you are unsure whether to apply as a first-year applicant or a transfer applicant, please email admissions@mahanaim.com

 Transfer Student Application

  1. A student who wants to transfer to the Mahanaim program must have completed at least two semesters at a nationally accredited college or university.

  2. Transfer students will fill out the same application as freshmen, and so for application materials such as a personal essay, two recommenders' information, and pre-screening except for high school transcripts.

  3. After passing phase I of admission, a student will go through the phase II of admission process, same as freshmen applicants.

  4. A transfer student will request his or her previous institution to send the original transcript to Mahanaim directly. The transcript should be sealed and addressed to the Department of Enrollment Management with attention to “Transfer.” 

  5. The transfer credit process will begin after the admissions decision is made. Once the transfer candidate is accepted, the student needs to submit the Transfer Credit Request Form to the Office of Academic Affairs. 

  6. International students who transfer to Mahanaim still follow the English language proficiency Policy, same as freshmen applicants, except for students from a higher education institution where the primary academic language is English. 

Applicants for Readmission

If a student takes two consecutive terms or more for a leave of absence, the student will not be withdrawn, however, he/she will need to re-audition and be re-evaluated to determine proper program and/or English proficiency placement. The following materials are required of applicants seeking readmission:

  • Application for Readmission

  • Audition

  • Application Fee

  • Statement of Purpose

  • Please explain why you left Mahanaim, your activities since your departure, and your reasons for wishing to return. This statement should be attached as a Word document to the email submission of this application, admissions@mahanaim.com.

Please save the documents with your last name and “readmission application” as the file name.

Application Process - ESL

  1. Applicants will fill out the application. The application can be found here. Please apply to admissions@mahanaim.com

  2. When you apply, you must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $100 for ESL or $30 for ESL Explorer- High School.

  3. After the application is approved, the applicants will take a placement test (CELSA).

  4. Based on the result of the placement test, the applicants will be assigned to their designated levels.

  5. Before the first day of school, the applicants have to sign an enrollment agreement form
